Robyn Reviews “Our Infinite Fates”.
As many of you know, we often get advanced copies of books from publishers. This is so we can read them before the release date and shout about the ones we’re excited for. Sadly, very rarely do we have time to read them. That’s why some of you help us out for our blog posts.
However, once in a blue moon, we do have the time; and even more rare is finding a gem of a book that will stay with you for a long, long while.
I was lucky enough to have that expirence with an upcoming release, Our Infinite Fates by Laura Steven. Out on 27th Feburary 2025, its one you wont want to miss. Espeically if you liked Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross or The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E.Schwab.
Our Infinite Fates is a young adult magical realism book following two characters through their many lives. In each life, Evelyn connects to the family she’s been born into, the life that she lives and the place she calls home- and each one is different. However, before she can turn eighteen, she is murdered. For thousands of years this cycle has persisted, leaving Evelyn angry and looking for answers.
The only source of answers is her wouldbe murderer and greatest love, who hunts her down in every lifetime - the only problem is this time she doens’t know who it is. She’s asked before in previous lives, but Arden has never answered and as the lives progress, they’re getting better at keeping their distance.
This emotionally charged and beautifully written book was a huge surprise for me. It’s one I wish I could read again for the first time; I was given an electronic copy and I feel that my reading experience would have been much better if I had read a physical copy.
I instantly connected to the characters and loved the modern day sections being interspersed with the history of the two characters. We went from present day Wales, to 1800’s Venice, to Dutch East Indies in 1700’s, to the Ottoman Empire in 1400’s. Each life time sees the characters in different lives, but still possessing that thing that makes them who they are, their soul.
The depth of the characters is something that I’ll remember for a long while. The story is told from Evelyn’s point of view, but you get to know Arden just as well through snippets of Evelyn’s memory. There were so many complex emotions between these two and I felt like I was right there with them.
There were a few moments throughout this book where the writing was so beautiful that I had to take a second or third read of the line. This will be the Divine Rivals of 2025!
"If a hero is someone who will give up love to save the world, then a villain is the reverse. Someone who will give up the world to save love."
This is an epic, sweeping love story that transcends time and centuries and gender. It is heartbreaking and uplifting and I highly recommend you give it ago. I wish I could read it for the first time again.
Age Rating:
We think this book would be suitable for 14+, with the understanding that it details death (although not graphically) and there is implied elements of adult relationships.
